Frequently Asked Questions
I've never been to therapy. What is it like?
We've come a long way from lying on the couch while a therapist mumbles "mmhmmm" and scribbles notes on a legal pad! At Open Eyes Open Heart, therapy is about feeling safe and comfortable to discuss whatever topics are relevant to your goals. Sometimes this can be difficult and uncomfortable, but we take great care to go at a pace that feels right for each client. We will never push you to talk about things that you don't feel ready or willing to share.
How much does it cost?
Each 50-minute session is $120. The initial intake session is a full 60 minutes and is $135. Sliding scale options are available on a case-by-case basis.
Do you take insurance?
At this time, we do not accept insurance. We anticipate being a Blue Cross Blue Shield provider by summer of 2024.
Many insurance companies allow you (the client) to submit invoices from "out of network" providers. They will then reimburse you for part of the cost of therapy. It is up to the client to contact your insurance company to determine if they offer reimbursement.
Where are you located?
Open Eyes Open Heart is currently virtual only. We are licensed in the states of Illinois and Indiana, meaning that we can see clients who reside in either of these two states.
How often should I come to therapy?
Typically, sessions begin on a weekly or bi-weekly basis. This allows for consistent progress towards therapy goals. As sessions progress, we can discuss a schedule that fits each client's needs, desires, and schedule.
How long will I be in therapy?
While we cannot give a set length of time for treatment, we can assure clients that you participate to your level of comfort. We create a plan and goals together, and while the duration may vary, the client is always a collaborator in the length of time they find helpful.
How do I pick the right therapist?
Choosing a therapist can be daunting, but we feel that finding the right fit is one of the most important factors for success in therapy. We recommend scheduling phone consultations with 2-3 different therapists so you can discuss approach and find the person with whom you feel most comfortable.
Are my sessions confidential?
Everything discussed in therapy stays between the therapist and client, except in cases where we feel you are at risk of harming yourself or someone else. If you wish for us to collaborate or consult with a physician or school, we will ask you to sign a Release of Information.
What is your cancellation policy?
Please provide 24 hours prior notice if you need to cancel or reschedule an appointment. Full session fees are charged for missed sessions.
May I call or text you outside of appointments?
Texting and phone calls are reserved for appointment scheduling purposes only. All therapeutic discussions happen in session only. Clients may leave messages outside of their appointments and will receive a response within 24-48 hours. Texts and voicemails are not to be used for emergencies or crises situations. If you feel you are in crisis, please dial 988.
Do you prescribe medication?
Liz is not a medical doctor, so medication is not part of services provided. We can make recommendations for psychiatrists based on your insurance, if requested.
